Challenge
Traditional car inspection methods for detecting scratches and dents were time-consuming, subjective, and prone to human error. Automating this process required a highly accurate AI model capable of identifying even minor damages across various car surfaces, lighting conditions, and angles. Ensuring model precision while handling diverse image inputs was a significant challenge.
Solution
Developed and trained a deep learning model using a vast dataset of car images with labeled scratches and dents. Leveraged convolutional neural networks (CNNs) to analyze patterns, textures, and anomalies in vehicle surfaces. The training process involved data augmentation techniques to improve accuracy under different lighting and environmental conditions. Integrated the model into an intuitive system that enables real-time damage assessment through image uploads. The solution significantly enhanced inspection efficiency, reduced human dependency, and provided precise damage classification, making it ideal for insurance companies, car rental agencies, and vehicle maintenance businesses.
Car Panel Label Rules
Doors (Passenger Doors)
- The metallic part of the door below the window should be annotated.
- F_door: Front door
- R_door: Rear door
Door Window
- Covers the glass pane and black rubber supports but not the car pillar.
- Fd_window: Includes window and rubber support, excludes side mirror.
- Rd_window: If split by thick carbon fiber, follow window edges and include rubber support.
Quarter Window
- If separated by thick carbon fiber/metal, annotate it separately.
- Label: quarter_window
Screen Pillar (A, B, C, D-Pillar)
- Start from the external edge of the quarter window to the lower windshield edge.
- Label: screen_pillar
Roof
- Excludes roof rails and screen pillar.
- Label: roof
Roof Rails
- Follow edges of roof rails.
- Label: roof_rails
Windshield
- Includes wipers.
- Label: windshield
Bonnet
- Starts below the windshield and ends at the headlights.
- Label: bonnet
Headlights & Fog Lights
- Follow edges of headlights.
- Label: head_light
- If fog lights are present, use head_light with group ID

Car Damage Labels
Rules for Annotating Damages
- Use a polygon to follow the actual damage shape.
- If multiple damages exist in the same location, annotate all applicable labels.
- If the damage is from a medium to extreme accident, only use the accident label.
Damage Types and Labels
- Dent – Visible depression due to impact.
- Scratch – Surface mark caused by a sharp object.
- Lamp Damage
- Headlight_damage
- Taillight_damage
- Indicators_damage
- Panel Displaced – If panel gaps are larger than usual.
- Glass Impact – Cracks or broken glass.
- Accident – Damage from medium to heavy collision.
- Hole – Circular hole caused by sharp objects.
- Tear – Irregular-shaped hole.
- Abrasion – Surface scraping or rubbing.
- Paint Damage – Corrosion, peeling, or worn-out Teflon.
- Dust – Clay, mud, grease, or dust accumulation.
